Hello! This is your friendly new checker to go with a new week in April!
We're half way through the month! How are things going? :)
Thought I'd change it up some since I don't have a paid account and can't create a pretty poll (ehehe, am I allowed to change it? :’D). The same concepts from the polls are here, though! :)
1.) How are you doing today?
-Are you having a good day or a bad day (and a good day doesn't necessarily mean a good writing day, we all know, so tell us how BOTH are going)?
-What’s your progress on your writing goal today? This can be:
-Word Count
-Planning
-Research
-Editing
-Something else specified in comments
-And how do you feel about your progress?
2.) What are the really, really great things that happened in your writing today?
(for example: “I totally nailed characterization today” or “This plot rocks so hard I’m going to burst my own ear drums”)
3.) What are the not so great things that you’re struggling with? How can your fellow writers try to help you today?
-What don’t you feel so successful about today (if anything)?
-Need someone to hold your hand? Cheerlead for you? Kick your @$$ to get motivated? Something along those lines. I’m sure I or any of your fellow writers will help where they can because we know the feeling. ;)
4.) Creative Corner
Feeling tired and frustrated and stumped on the next scene? Feeling excited and really proud and want to show off the good things you’re creating? Get your creative juices flowing or just brag on yourself!
-Today write a drabble (150 words or less) about your fic. This can be:
-A drabble on one of the characters you’re working on. Try to tell us what really makes him or her tick in 100 word. Or why you like this character so much in 100 words.
-A drabble just… about your fic (kind of like a summary, maybe?)
-A drabble about the relationship between one character to another
-A drabble about how much you’re frustrated with this fic and just want to throw it away but it clings to you like static electricity
-Be creative! Choose your own adventure
**Key words to use as prompts (but you don’t have to): apple, stars, caramel, McDonald’s, card table, book, night, glasses, slippers, breakfast, cabin, swim
**Key phrases to use as prompts (but you don’t have to): wine and dine, these old pair of shoes, the dreaming tree has died, can you hear me now?, the beast within, up the creek without a paddle, lipstick and mascara, all dressed up and…, poker night, tequila makes her clothes fall off, curl up around a good book
Too much? You don’t have to answer any of them. Just tell us "hi" and "what's up with you" and then peace out so you can write more!
Dumb ideas? Tell me and I'll try to make Day 18 more enjoyable and conducive to your fic finishing needs. :)

Date: Sunday, April 17th, 2011 15:00 (UTC)2.) I’m doing awesome on my characterizations. I know them inside and out by now and that’s an awesome feeling because I did NOT feel that way the first two chapters of this fic and worried about it. Also, the plot is coming together well, along with the romance pairing and by bad guy and it just feels really good to be close to the end of this fic and watch everything—even the seemingly random scenes I threw in for the heck of it in earlier chapters—come together and make a good story. To be honest, even if I don’t make the deadline, I’m pretty proud of myself. :D
3.) I would really, really like some cheerleading and ass kicking. I have three chapters, each that will probably average 30-40K, to write in fourteen days. Help? *cries*
4.) Eheheheh. I can’t believe I suggested this and can’t even really do it. *brave face*
Prompt: tequila makes
herhis clothes fall off (slash-y warning)In retrospect, maybe giving ambrosia to a human that doesn’t even drink much human liquor wasn’t one of Jensen’s brightest ideas.
It starts with Jared’s watch, which he fiddles with and finally unclasps and hands to Jensen for him to hold. Then it’s his blue button-up over shirt, leaving the human in his white t-shirt and black slacks. Then it’s his shoes and socks and Jensen just turns his back for ten seconds (to locate said missing shoes and socks) and when he turns around Jared’s in the middle of party, shirtless with pants undone and grinning like a fool, swaying to the music and giving Jensen the come hither finger motion.
When Jared sobers up from the divine wine he’s going to murder Jensen. He’s immortal and thus hard to kill, but he’s sure Jared will be pissed enough to find a way.

Date: Sunday, April 17th, 2011 17:07 (UTC)I think you can do it! 35k in 5 days is amazing, & yeah, maybe you feel like you went all-out & you can't keep up that pace anymore. But maybe you can!! Plus, think of how awesome it will be when you are done & how you can bask in triumph.
It's really good to feel comfortable w/characterizations--that's something I often feel a bit insecure about (especially as most of my fics are plotless wonders, so if I don't get characterization right...).
Also LOL AMBROSIA.

Date: Sunday, April 17th, 2011 17:40 (UTC)Thanks so much for the encouragement!! I'll try my best to finish!!
But for now, NEW HARRY POTTER DVD!!! /o/

Date: Sunday, April 17th, 2011 20:41 (UTC)Given that you only need the rough draft by May 1st, maybe there's 20k somewhere in those 3 chapters that are not 100 % crucial to the plot and that you can skip for now? It'd give you a little more breathing room and you can still add them afterwards.
But seriously, you have every reason to be proud of you work!

Date: Sunday, April 17th, 2011 20:46 (UTC)Keep up the good work on the fic.
I'm sure that at that lick you can do it.

Date: Sunday, April 17th, 2011 17:02 (UTC)I'm going to sit down & do some more edits on my fic tonight & hopefully commit myself to sending it to beta. Just now I noodled out a little draft of a comment fic for
I'm also super pleased b/c as of tonight I am on a 365-day streak w/750 Words!!!! I started using the site on a whim, or really in a bout of cynicism--a lot of my friends had just tried it out & thought it was amazing, & I thought I'd give it a whirl but fully expected it wouldn't be for me. & here I am a zillion fics (er, if you count all my WIPs) later! \o/

Date: Sunday, April 17th, 2011 17:38 (UTC)ANNNND nice job on your streak on 750 words!! :D I had a 10 day streak going myself but then I discovered AIM writing sprints and I have a buddy that I do them every night with and I end up being more productive that way. So I haven't written in 750 words in a couple of days. XD But I LOVE that site and go you for totally rocking out the streak! I know it's hard to make yourself write every day so you're awesome!! *\o/*

Date: Sunday, April 17th, 2011 20:54 (UTC)I haven't quite worked out what to use 750 words for yet. I don't want to abandon paper and ink for private thoughts but it might also be good for a dedicated project - plus there's text storage there I think.

Date: Tuesday, April 19th, 2011 19:33 (UTC)& yeah, your stuff is on the site after you write it every day (you can also export it as often as you want). Sometimes I write fic in it; sometimes I just do brain-dump (& sometimes I brainstorm about fic).

Date: Sunday, April 17th, 2011 18:51 (UTC)1: Bad day IRL (this is the fourth day in a row I've missed at least one event I was looking forward to). But no day is a bad writing day till it's over, and I have my folder of notes-to-type-up and my thumb drive (and a whole load of DS9 DVDs from the library), so there's that.
2: Watched "Facets" last night and wound up having an Odo+Lwaxana!BFFs fic turn from "unfocused meta" to "beginning of a snippet" in my head... we'll see if I can recapture that, but at least I know it's possible now.
(It is true that Lwaxana Troi doesn't appear in "Facets". It's complicated.)
3: Roomie was cooking something that smelled so bad (to me - we come from different continents) I didn't eat lunch. My writing brain is not at all happy at my blood sugar right now.
*chocolate*

Date: Sunday, April 17th, 2011 21:59 (UTC)Oooh! I'm glad when meta turns to snippet because that always turns into FIC and YAY!! /o/
Chocolate helps. *nodnodnodnod* Have some of mine! *hits the computer screen with it*
...Heh. That... didn't work at all. D:
Go go go go go!! YOU CAN DO IT! *\o/*

Date: Sunday, April 17th, 2011 19:17 (UTC)As for my writing, I have been bit by a couple of plot bunnies that are demanding I research them. This is a problem, because the last thing I need now are more stories to write. ;-) On the other hand, this a good thing, because it's writing and writing is always good, and I love research! Also, these bunnies will be worth writing, even if it does take away some of my energy from the other WIPs I have going. They are related to other stuff I am working on, so it's bound to benefit my other WIP's in some way or another.
A really great thing that happened just now as I was thinking about my plot bunnies was that I saw a way that I might be able to combine the two bunnies to make a single very large bunny! This is exciting, and one of those reasons I love doing research. It gives me great new ideas even as I am trying to consolidate the ones I already had into something that works.
I'm not feeling successful at the moment in keeping up with my word count for my Big Bang challenge. The deadline for being halfway was extended and now I am feeling less pressure. ;-) I need to pull it out and at least do some editing today (or some more research to get the ideas flowing), and get back on track.

Date: Sunday, April 17th, 2011 20:57 (UTC)Wonderful, its great when things like this happen. Its like when Remix gave me the author I got, because I was already haunted by bunnies on some of her fic.
All the best with the big bang.

Date: Sunday, April 17th, 2011 22:38 (UTC)I know you feel down about big bang but try to work on it today!! Maybe it'll start flowing if you just start, you know? :)
Nice job! Keep going!! :D

Date: Sunday, April 17th, 2011 20:51 (UTC)The drabble list is great.
Unfortunately, like I said yesterday, weekends don't really work for me fic-wise. I did manage to make a list of potential trouble spots to iron out in the remix editing though.

Date: Sunday, April 17th, 2011 22:44 (UTC)It's OK, you'll pick up the productive-ness again during the week. And it's not a day wasted if you've figured out some places to edit! ;)
Good luck! See you tomorrow! :D

Date: Sunday, April 17th, 2011 21:07 (UTC)And in non-writing news, I've discovered that my old university gives alumnus discounts on adult education courses. So I guess I'll be learning Russian soon. Maybe even get the geology nerdery going!
2) Er. Not much? I'm line editing; it's not exactly thrilling. I feel like I'm making progress on worldbuilding for my original stuff, though.
3) Well, I'm starting to get waaaay too close to this to edit effectively, but I'll work through that ;) Current problem is: all characters in this scene are talking heads and need to EMOTE MOAR. (It doesn't help that 50% of characters in the scene are physically incapable of moving from their current positions.)
4) Ooh, Creative Corner! I like it.
Totally the wrong genre (not even fanfic), but here goes...
[Some swearing, by the way.]
When Lysia was little and learning about the angels in school, she learned about fierce battles against the legions of the Netherworld, about Exian and the Great Betrayal and the Sealing, great wars and insurmountable odds. All of these things happened long before she was born.
Nobody had ever said anything about bake sales. The kindly ladies in the market places under 'Flying Angels' banners had only ever been interesting because the waffles they sold were bigger than her head.
She's older now, and she has a figure to maintain, and besides, you're not allowed to eat the cakes when you're the one selling them. Mostly she sits behind her mountain of enormous cakes and wonders if civilians ever have the same realisation as she's had; namely, that their angels are fucking useless.
She'd quite happily live through a demon invasion if it meant she didn't have to sell one more spit-damned cake.

Date: Sunday, April 17th, 2011 22:51 (UTC)You participated in Creative Corner!!! /o/ /o/ /o/
And it's an AMAZING drabble/snippet, too! :D Kind of funny in a darkly cute way, pessimistic, and just the right addition of ridiculousness to make it funny. LOVE the last line. Nice one! :D
Also, in writerly conerns, it does sound like a very manageable editing process ahead!! Don't get frustrated with it and keep working, I know you can! ;)
Annnnnnd. Yeah. Your characters stumped me yesterday when you asked for help. I hit "reply" and watched the cursor for like ten minutes before I realized that I had no clue how to help. :/ Today's no better. Hopefully someone else around here will?
Good luck today and see you tomorrow! :D
