Hello! This is your friendly new checker to go with a new week in April!

We're half way through the month! How are things going? :)

Thought I'd change it up some since I don't have a paid account and can't create a pretty poll (ehehe, am I allowed to change it? :’D). The same concepts from the polls are here, though! :)

1.) How are you doing today?

-Are you having a good day or a bad day (and a good day doesn't necessarily mean a good writing day, we all know, so tell us how BOTH are going)?

-What’s your progress on your writing goal today? This can be:
-Word Count
-Planning
-Research
-Editing
-Something else specified in comments

-And how do you feel about your progress?

2.) What are the really, really great things that happened in your writing today?

(for example: “I totally nailed characterization today” or “This plot rocks so hard I’m going to burst my own ear drums”)

3.) What are the not so great things that you’re struggling with? How can your fellow writers try to help you today?

-What don’t you feel so successful about today (if anything)?

-Need someone to hold your hand? Cheerlead for you? Kick your @$$ to get motivated? Something along those lines. I’m sure I or any of your fellow writers will help where they can because we know the feeling. ;)

4.) Creative Corner

Feeling tired and frustrated and stumped on the next scene? Feeling excited and really proud and want to show off the good things you’re creating? Get your creative juices flowing or just brag on yourself!

-Today write a drabble (150 words or less) about your fic. This can be:

-A drabble on one of the characters you’re working on. Try to tell us what really makes him or her tick in 100 word. Or why you like this character so much in 100 words.
-A drabble just… about your fic (kind of like a summary, maybe?)
-A drabble about the relationship between one character to another
-A drabble about how much you’re frustrated with this fic and just want to throw it away but it clings to you like static electricity
-Be creative! Choose your own adventure

**Key words to use as prompts (but you don’t have to): apple, stars, caramel, McDonald’s, card table, book, night, glasses, slippers, breakfast, cabin, swim

**Key phrases to use as prompts (but you don’t have to): wine and dine, these old pair of shoes, the dreaming tree has died, can you hear me now?, the beast within, up the creek without a paddle, lipstick and mascara, all dressed up and…, poker night, tequila makes her clothes fall off, curl up around a good book

Too much? You don’t have to answer any of them. Just tell us "hi" and "what's up with you" and then peace out so you can write more!

Dumb ideas? Tell me and I'll try to make Day 18 more enjoyable and conducive to your fic finishing needs. :)

I wrote 35K in five days

I have three chapters, each that will probably average 30-40K, to write in fourteen days

I think you can do it! 35k in 5 days is amazing, & yeah, maybe you feel like you went all-out & you can't keep up that pace anymore. But maybe you can!! Plus, think of how awesome it will be when you are done & how you can bask in triumph.

It's really good to feel comfortable w/characterizations--that's something I often feel a bit insecure about (especially as most of my fics are plotless wonders, so if I don't get characterization right...).

Also LOL AMBROSIA.

YOU CAN DO IT! You are awesome like that! Write write write write.

Given that you only need the rough draft by May 1st, maybe there's 20k somewhere in those 3 chapters that are not 100 % crucial to the plot and that you can skip for now? It'd give you a little more breathing room and you can still add them afterwards.

But seriously, you have every reason to be proud of you work!

Wow.
Keep up the good work on the fic.
I'm sure that at that lick you can do it.

Hee, your new souped-up questions are awesome! (& yes, anyone doing check-in posts should feel free to fiddle w/the poll questions--or skip them altogether--if they want!) Thank you for doing this.

I'm going to sit down & do some more edits on my fic tonight & hopefully commit myself to sending it to beta. Just now I noodled out a little draft of a comment fic for [community profile] fic_promptly--it may never get to a finished state, but I am pleased b/c it's not necessarily a prompt I thought I could write (er, looking back now I realize it's one of my own prompts, hahaha--but I generally leave prompts I think I can't write myself!).

I'm also super pleased b/c as of tonight I am on a 365-day streak w/750 Words!!!! I started using the site on a whim, or really in a bout of cynicism--a lot of my friends had just tried it out & thought it was amazing, & I thought I'd give it a whirl but fully expected it wouldn't be for me. & here I am a zillion fics (er, if you count all my WIPs) later! \o/

Thank you! & that's really fantastic that you found someone to do daily writing sprints w/! (I think you should technically be able to paste in the words you've written in the sprint as your entry for 750 Words that day--that seems in the spirit of things to me!)

Congratulations on your 365-day streak! Heh, I actually had a minor freakout today because I thought I'd forgotten yesterday's entry and would end up on the wall of shame which must not be. The site is great, though. Thanks again for recommending it :)

Well done for the 365 days.

I haven't quite worked out what to use 750 words for yet. I don't want to abandon paper and ink for private thoughts but it might also be good for a dedicated project - plus there's text storage there I think.

Thank you!

& yeah, your stuff is on the site after you write it every day (you can also export it as often as you want). Sometimes I write fic in it; sometimes I just do brain-dump (& sometimes I brainstorm about fic).

I love the new souped-up questions!

1: Bad day IRL (this is the fourth day in a row I've missed at least one event I was looking forward to). But no day is a bad writing day till it's over, and I have my folder of notes-to-type-up and my thumb drive (and a whole load of DS9 DVDs from the library), so there's that.

2: Watched "Facets" last night and wound up having an Odo+Lwaxana!BFFs fic turn from "unfocused meta" to "beginning of a snippet" in my head... we'll see if I can recapture that, but at least I know it's possible now.

(It is true that Lwaxana Troi doesn't appear in "Facets". It's complicated.)

3: Roomie was cooking something that smelled so bad (to me - we come from different continents) I didn't eat lunch. My writing brain is not at all happy at my blood sugar right now.

*chocolate*

I'm having a pretty good day. The Real World has been held at bay for half of the day, but I'm going to have to go out in it soon. I think it will be a fun day, but it will also be tiring. The sun is shining, though, and that makes it all okay! :-)

As for my writing, I have been bit by a couple of plot bunnies that are demanding I research them. This is a problem, because the last thing I need now are more stories to write. ;-) On the other hand, this a good thing, because it's writing and writing is always good, and I love research! Also, these bunnies will be worth writing, even if it does take away some of my energy from the other WIPs I have going. They are related to other stuff I am working on, so it's bound to benefit my other WIP's in some way or another.

A really great thing that happened just now as I was thinking about my plot bunnies was that I saw a way that I might be able to combine the two bunnies to make a single very large bunny! This is exciting, and one of those reasons I love doing research. It gives me great new ideas even as I am trying to consolidate the ones I already had into something that works.

I'm not feeling successful at the moment in keeping up with my word count for my Big Bang challenge. The deadline for being halfway was extended and now I am feeling less pressure. ;-) I need to pull it out and at least do some editing today (or some more research to get the ideas flowing), and get back on track.

Wonderful, its great when things like this happen. Its like when Remix gave me the author I got, because I was already haunted by bunnies on some of her fic.

All the best with the big bang.

I'm feeling very wordless today. Even with editing. But I'll try and print my messy current draft (depending on whether netbook and new scary foreign printer are inclined to talk) and maybe seeing it all on paper helps a little.

I love the new check in post. These are good ideas.

The drabble list is great.

Unfortunately, like I said yesterday, weekends don't really work for me fic-wise. I did manage to make a list of potential trouble spots to iron out in the remix editing though.

1) I'm not having a bad day at all! I got a bit panicky when I realised how much I had left to edit, but when I actually did the maths it worked out to three pages a day to be done by next weekend - or four and a half pages a day if I want to have it done in five days. This is a manageable goal!

And in non-writing news, I've discovered that my old university gives alumnus discounts on adult education courses. So I guess I'll be learning Russian soon. Maybe even get the geology nerdery going!

2) Er. Not much? I'm line editing; it's not exactly thrilling. I feel like I'm making progress on worldbuilding for my original stuff, though.

3) Well, I'm starting to get waaaay too close to this to edit effectively, but I'll work through that ;) Current problem is: all characters in this scene are talking heads and need to EMOTE MOAR. (It doesn't help that 50% of characters in the scene are physically incapable of moving from their current positions.)

4) Ooh, Creative Corner! I like it.

Totally the wrong genre (not even fanfic), but here goes...

[Some swearing, by the way.]

When Lysia was little and learning about the angels in school, she learned about fierce battles against the legions of the Netherworld, about Exian and the Great Betrayal and the Sealing, great wars and insurmountable odds. All of these things happened long before she was born.

Nobody had ever said anything about bake sales. The kindly ladies in the market places under 'Flying Angels' banners had only ever been interesting because the waffles they sold were bigger than her head.

She's older now, and she has a figure to maintain, and besides, you're not allowed to eat the cakes when you're the one selling them. Mostly she sits behind her mountain of enormous cakes and wonders if civilians ever have the same realisation as she's had; namely, that their angels are fucking useless.

She'd quite happily live through a demon invasion if it meant she didn't have to sell one more spit-damned cake.

I'm very glad you liked it! It actually helped a lot; I don't often write from Lysia's POV, and it turns out that getting into her head a bit was just what I needed to start the train of thought that led to the villain making sense! (Though he's not keeping 'Exion' as a name. He may be a villain, but he is not an oil company.)

[personal profile] lacygrey came up with a couple of things that might work in replacement of mental eyerolling, but more and more I think that I've found a(nother) limitation of the English language. In any case, it's kind of nice in a perverse way to know that everyone else is stumped too :p
