Writing for others. Do you like writing fic for other people? Do you just write for yourself?

Hashing out my next idea today, but time has not been as forthcoming as I would like, so it will have to wait until tomorrow. Maybe.

Today's question is one I keep asking myself, but I can never find a definitive answer. I enjoy writing for prompts and requests, and that means I enjoy writing for others, but I also enjoy writing for myself ... or do I? Never completely certain about that. Knowing what people want to read is very helpful in deciding what to write, and I remember many occasions where I came up with a lot of stuff in support of an idea that I thought was pretty clever or unique, only to have no response at all. :-| Prompts and requests are much safer writing, even if part of me knows there are times when you must take chances.

I wrote by hand during a meeting, but it's decent enough to keep, I think. Need to type it up today and add it to my WIP that I am trying to finish. I expect it needs editing and extending, but what I was able to write will definitely move me forward.

In the beginning I definitely wrote for myself, telling the stories that I wanted to be told. I still do that, but I also write for others now, when I do prompts and exchanges. I have also accepted suggestions from readers, as long as those suggestions fit within my own likes and dislikes.
