When did you first start writing fanfic? What was your first fandom?

I started writing fanfic around 2006. The first fandom I wrote in was Firefly. My first story was written before I'd ever seen the show, based just on the Wikipedia entry and other fanfics. It's still available at http://archiveofourown.org/works/9133438

It's kind of funny how there are a lot of fandoms I love that I've never written for: Star Trek, Star Wars, Buffy/Angel, Leverage.

The story I started writing (and posted chapter 1 of) today is in K-pop (specifically Blackpink) fandom. The thing that gets everything started is that one of the girls starts reading fanfic about the band and decides she prefers the fanfic version of one of her bandmates to the real thing. If you want, you can read it at http://www.asianfanfics.com/story/view/1287342/out-of-her-shell-rose-girlxgirl-jisoo-jenniekim-jennie-lisa-blackpink-jisooblackpink-lisoo-lisablackpink-roseblackpink-jennieblackpink (If I could change once thing about asianfanfics.com, it's how they put all the story's tags in the URL.)

I haven't heard of asianfanfics until now. Even through I don't write such stories anymore I still like to read them from time to time.

I hadn't heard of it either until someone I was talking in comments on AO3 told me about it. It's really a fun place - very active and very interactive. So long as you take a few minutes to learn what tags they use for what (e.g. 99% of the time they use "girlxgirl" instead of "femslash") you can find the fics that interest you or, if you're a writer, get your fics in front of the people will be interested in them.

Back to the cinema to see It again today. Therapeutic after a long week at work. Hoping to write at one point or another as the weekend progresses.

I officially started writing fanfic on June 18, 1999, the day I posted my first story. First fandom was Sailor Moon. ... Going back to it nowadays feels like going back to the house where you grew up. You recognize it, but somebody else lives there now.

I guess it was around 1999/2000. First story was a Harry Potter story. I wanted to write the fourth book since I had read all three and couldn't wait for the fourth. Sadly it is now all gone since it was on a floppy disk and I never thought of saving it on something else.

I dabbled with writing from a young age, but my first fanfic was posted in May 2002. My first fandom was probably Star Trek, but I never wrote any stories for that; it was soon to be swallowed up by my main fandom, Lord of the Rings/Tolkien -- which is still my main fandom, and the one I wrote in and still write in! I was a reader of Tolkien since the age of 12, but I didn't get inspired to write in the fandom until after the first of the films came out in 2001.

The only other fandom I have written and posted in is Major (baseball anime/manga). I also have a number of story ideas for Naruto which I have written down and kept track of, but I doubt I'll ever write them, as there are too many LotR stories to be told.

Have you ever drifted over into LOTRiPS fandom (LOTR Real Person Slash)? I know a lot of Tolkein fans consider that as being like "the dark side," but there are (or were last time I was around) a lot of really creative people in that fandom writing some really interesting fics.

I'm familiar with the fandom, but I've never actually read anything in it. Myself, I'm more a fan of the characters than the Real People who played them, but a number of my online friends in the LotR community (all of whom are very creative writers!) have written in that fandom.

My wife got into the fandom and started passing on some of the stories to me. I was just really impressed at the amount of research and worldbuilding that went into some of the stories.
