Tuesday Discussion: Do you write humor? What is your process for writing jokes? How do you work them into the scene without disrupting the flow?

Hadn't thought about it 'til now, so all I can come up with is that in an otherwise serious scene, I wouldn't put in a joke unless it didn't disrupt the flow. Villains like Angelus are particularly useful and fun in this regard, because they live to joke even as they're ripping our your spleen.

I think the trick to that is to have the entire story be funny, and to then have that be a short so that it does not wear out its welcome too quickly. Writing humor into a longer story that might be otherwise be serious is ... quite a bit harder. I don't have any advice on that. Speaking from past experience: Sometimes, it works. Sometimes, it falls as flat as a lead balloon.
