Tuesday Discussion: Do you write humor? What is your process for writing jokes? How do you work them into the scene without disrupting the flow?

I already knew that today was not going to be a writing day because today is the release day for Etrian Odyssey Nexus (3DS), and that dungeon is going to keep me from keyboard for most of the evening. :-) But, hey, it's hard to write fanfic if you don't experience the raw material that makes it happen, right?

As much as I try to be a serious 'ficcer, there are times when I've got to plant my tongue firmly in cheek and write silly stuff instead. I think the trick to that is to have the entire story be funny, and to then have that be a short so that it does not wear out its welcome too quickly. Writing humor into a longer story that might be otherwise be serious is ... quite a bit harder. I don't have any advice on that. Speaking from past experience: Sometimes, it works. Sometimes, it falls as flat as a lead balloon.
