Hello everyone, how are things going today?
Did you write today?
-Yes
-No
-Not yet, but the day isn't over!
If not, what did you do instead?
-Planned/outlined/researched
-Edited
-Posted
-Took a break
-Something else
Writing Question:
Only semi-related to writing today, but I just spent an inordinate amount of time dealing with a computer problem, and most of us write on our computers, so how often do you back up your work, and what is your preferred method of doing so?

Date: Monday, September 16th, 2019 16:02 (UTC)I've been using Scrivener for most of the past year, and it has a nice auto-backup function, I back it up to a small flash drive I keep plugged into my laptop. Occasionally I do full backups to an external hard drive, but not as often as I should.

Date: Monday, September 16th, 2019 22:32 (UTC)Sorry about your computer problem! Because I've had a couple of close calls myself, I back up frequently. I have a second hard drive in my computer where I save duplicate copies of my writing folders, and I also save those folders to 2 separate flash drives (which are also useful for when I am traveling and don't have my own computer). I save the chapters I'm currently working on to Dropbox so I have access to them anywhere, and I back up my entire computer once a week to an external back up drive. It works pretty well, as long as I remember to copy the most recent work to the separate drive and the flash drives! I should probably set up a schedule for that...

Date: Tuesday, September 17th, 2019 01:21 (UTC)As for backing up my work, the nice thing about RTFs, TXTs, and the like is that they are small. I have back-ups of my stories, not only on Dreamwidth, but on flash drives, on CD-Rs, on one old external hard drive, even on an aged 5.25" floppy disk (... it's an old story). I have lost work before, and it pained me enough that I have back-ups upon back-ups.

Date: Tuesday, September 17th, 2019 03:37 (UTC)The rest of the week, we'll see - I probably only really have time to write on Sundays, but next Sunday I plan on tackling it with a vengeance, see if I can't get most of this assignment done. 2k minimums are harder for me - my story ideas tend to come out in the 1-2k range - but I think this one I can make 2k easily enough.
