Discussion: prompts. Do you have a favourite type of prompt to work from? pictures, words, quotes etc.

I'm much better at word prompts than picture prompts (unless it's people, then I get all sorts of ideas).

Pictures and videos, most of the time. Once in a while I'll re-read an old favorite for inspiration.

Words almost always give me the best prompt ideas, though sometimes they spin wildly off of the actual prompt, which is fun in its own way.
Pictures can be nice, and I've definitely seen some great images that tell a story, or imply something interesting to explore.
I've never been able to work off of quotes, though. Whether they're a famous quote, or a prompt in the form of a dialogue snippet, those never quite gel for me.

I'm a one trick pony: i can only translate ideas from or to words.
(That said, quotes are a little weird because i'm unsure on what level am i supposed to connect with them if they are from another fiction? Am i supposed to use it as intertextuality? Capture the same themes? Go for the same atmosphere, same style? So i work better if the words are not already part of another work.)

I get good ideas from word prompts, but pictures can be good sometimes, too. Words more consistently inspire me, though.
