OK, and now, for today's questions: are the majority of your fics based on one genre? Do you ever write a genre that'd be considered the reverse of that? Is there a genre you wish you could try out but haven't?

Found a beta! Prodding twitter long enough worked. XD So now that fic has been sent off and I can work on my AU big bang in the mean time. Which I need to do because it's still only 3k long. D:

It's really nice to have that queer_fest fic done and off to the beta now because it gives me space to work on this other fic now. I can worry about what changes I might need to make when it comes back and see if I can't get some good progress on this during the week. Well, I have work tomorrow, but I can make notes in my email and such. :P

I tend to cross genres more than stick to specific ones. Writing about old bands could be considered 'historical', and I've done some steampunk, science fiction, time travel, horror, urban fantasy, BDSM, LGBTI/queer/transgender, dystopian, zombie apocalypse, fantasy, all sorts of things. Smut counts too, right? XD Doing AU bingo last time did at least make me try my hand at detective fic, and even if it was an exercise in puns and not that serious, it was still fun to write. Don't know if I'll try it again though.

ALSO. Still totally need to have a go at a Western. Last year's NaNo was supposed to be a Georgian Steampunk Western, but the Western kind of got left out as I kept writing. So maybe we'll have another go at a Western some time, just to say I've done it.

I did some helpful editing, wrote up some more notes (including something I thought of in the night and actually remembered the next day!), did some research and made notes on that, and then did some daydreaming. I had intended to actually write, too, but decided to take a break instead. I may keep on with the daydreaming, as that can be quite a useful venture in sorting out conversations and order of events. So, no word count to speak of (though the editing did actually bring forth a bit of new text in the process), but on the whole, it wasn't a bad day and I'm further along than I was yesterday!

My fics are almost exclusively based on one genre (and one fandom within that genre), and I hardly ever go out of it because I'm very comfortable there! Within that genre, my writings tend to be AU. I have recently ventured into writing in the sports genre (thanks to my love of a certain anime/manga series), and it's been quite fun. I suppose that's pretty much the opposite of my usual! I have toyed with the idea of doing some science fiction (specifically Star Trek), but haven't taken the plunge as yet.

Yeah, posting started a while ago. My second/last posting date for queer_fest is the 25th, but I've still got the Wednesday after that if I need it. You can't beta a 46k fic in an hour, so I'm willing to give my beta as much time as she needs to get it done. I'd have liked to get it posted tomorrow, but I'd rather the extra time to polish it.

IDK, I was a bit like that too, but AU bingo gave me all sorts of interesting ideas for genres/AUs I hadn't tried yet so I was wiling to go for it. I think it's easier to experiment with new genres with something like a bingo card because it's only one fic for a bingo, rather than, say, sitting down and deciding you're going to write zombies today. Or something. IDK, it works for me, and I don't see the harm in trying a new genre at least once, just to see if it's any fun and if it's something I'm any good at. But if the plot bunny's not there, it is harder to write. That's possibly why I threw so much crack and humour into my detective fic. I didn't think I had the ~smarts~ to write a proper detective story. I can't plot like that, but I can write puns, so puns won out. :D

I actually wrote some! Unfortunately, I realized that I was starting the scene at the wrong point -- traveling really is boring -- so I need to rewrite the scene starting from the new, more active point. So, a few hundred words down the drain, to be replaced with more and better words.

I guess most of my writing tends to be in fandoms that are based on classic literature -- Romeo & Juliet, and I wrote one in Northanger Abbey (Jane Austen) for Yuletide last year -- so they're historical fiction for me to write, even though they were contemporary when they were written by the original authors, since I do not live in Shakespearean or Regency England. But then I've written in 10th Kingdom, which is fairy tale/fantasy, and also 30 Rock which is . . . crackfic, pretty much by virtue of the show's nature. My original fiction tends to be historical fantasy romance.

So, historical fiction, I guess? But also a little fantastical sometimes. And I like drama! Melodrama, some might say. :P

As for genres I'd like to write in, is "finished" a genre? It really should be!

My fics are usually the literary genre of whatever the show/book/movie they are based on is. In terms of fanfic genres, I usually write gen. I have written one non-gen story and I wouldn't mind at all writing more, but my muse usually doesn't take me in that direction.

I wrote 800 words for a comment fic (am trying to participate in the contest week at [community profile] fic_promptly but don't know if I'll get there -- I think I just take too long to be happy enough w/any fic to post it!). I don't know if it's usable at all. I edited a tiny bit of my rough draft WIP on the bus (yay for printing it out at work, heh).

I think the main things I've written have been... I dunno. My fandoms tend to be anime/manga ones about high school-aged people. Sometimes w/baseball. Sometimes w/spirits. (& no... no crossovers between the two, b/c... no. Besides, I am sadly not a crack fic writer.)

I lost my internet for most of this day. As my wip is on zoho, this means no writing for me.

I love genre fiction so most of my longer one belong to certain genre. I have done romance, mystery, horror, space opera, fantasy and space opera. I once described to others my current wip as investigative action horror.

No new words yesterday, but posted a few more chapters of my epic to the fandom archive.

Yes, my fics are all primarily romantic in nature. Even PWP tend to be more romantic in nature than just getting down and dirty. There are the occasional other genres, but not often.

Wee, able to get almost 900 words done for one of my stories! :D In fact, I'm FINALLY getting close to the ending (the story is around 5,400 words now, haha). I think I'll be able to finish it tonight or tomorrow if I focus hard enough/not let my other plot bunnies take over. \o/ Also, I'm able to make progress over some ideas for my current WIP, yay.

As for me, I have been writing in all shorts of genres. One I didn't expect to like until recently is romance because I tried it a couple of times for prompts relating to that and those didn't go so well. XD; However, I learned my mistakes and I'm able to get an idea how I want the romance play out in my stories. My latest TOO MANY FRAGMENTED SCENES work in progress story is going to be part romance and I think I'm doing that decently because I'm letting the characters drive the romance, not the other way around.
